Goals & Objectives
Every Picture Tells a Story

        Learning Objectives:
                    1. Students will learn that artwork may evoke feelings or emotions and
that there is a story behind every picture.
                    2. Students will apply principles of art to create powerful messages in
                          their self portraits.
                    3. Students will write descriptive paragraphs describing the “story”
                          behind the portrait.
                    4. Students will practice word processing skills.
                    5. Students will review their partners’ descriptive paragraphs and
appreciate the similarities and differences in interpretations of their
                            art.

        Process Goals:
                    1. The students will develop descriptive writing, editing and
                            proofreading skills.
                    2. Students will practice critical thinking skills.
                    3. The students may learn how to use a digital camera and photo
                           editing software.
                    4. The students will create original works of art.
                    5. The students will acquire knowledge and understanding about the
life and work of various artists.
                    6. The students’ work will reflect their increased insight as they begin
to see art as language and to see the relationship between art and
                          written word.

        Real World Connection
The intent is for the students to make a real world connection with students from
around the globe. They will have the opportunity to work collaboratively and create
projects with children from diverse backgrounds. They will expand their horizons by
communicating with other students and they will see that human emotion is
universal. They may be surprised to learn that other children could have very different
ideas of what is embarrassing, awe-inspiring , etc.

The use of digital and multimedia technology and the process of creating
for a worldwide audience will be a great motivator for the
                students.
