Part 1 - Art & Emotion
 How to Look at Art    This KinderArt site provides a guideline containing four basic components or stages of looking at art. The questions can be used to provoke curiosity and inquiry and encourage active student participation .

 Every_Picture.ppt     This is a good lesson to follow “How to Look at Art”.  Students will be able to discuss these famous and not so famous works of art.

    Emotion in Art and Poetry       This is an excellent art and emotion lesson from the Incredible @rt Department .  It includes writing using simile and metaphor.

  Emotion Painting      A KinderArt lesson in which students will gain an understanding of the role emotion plays in art making. The connection between line, color, texture and shape is explored as students create a painting that expresses a certain emotion or feeling. 

  What Makes You Scream?    Students will study Edvard Munch'’s painting "The Scream." They will then produce their own "scream" using directional lines as Munch did. 
  What’s Your Impression? Part 2 -The Descriptive Paragraph

  "I Spy": Using Adjectives and Descriptive                                                                                 Phrases     Students will review definitions for adjectives, learn and practice sensory adjectives and imagery, and use adjectives and descriptive phrases in writing a paragraph and/or story.
  Similes     "The Talking Eggs" by Robert San Souci is used to introduce and illustrate an author's use of language to paint a picture in the reader's mind. Students will draw a picture to show what this author meant, create similes to describe themselves, and finally use a simile in their next story in Writer's Workshop.
 Paragraph Sandwich     Teach students how to create a fantastic paragraph with this wonderful "sandwich" idea. It will allow students to learn the basics and get them thinking about what is needed to write great paragraphs for any audience
 Witch Project     Students will draw vividly colored witches in class and then write a paragraph describing their witch.
 Descriptive Writing  Students learn to develop powerfully descriptive writing pieces with help from Newberry Medal-winning author, Virginia Hamilton.
